Nutrition

HNEPH's work in this Area:

Poor nutrition is starting to rival tobacco use as the greatest contributor to preventable disease in Australian communities. This is coupled with the emergence of a childhood obesity epidemic, revealing up to 1 in 3 children are overweight or obese.

Hunter New England Population Health aims to reverse these trends through programs that address barriers to healthy eating for adults and children in the Hunter, New England and Lower Mid North Coast regions. Our focus for nutrition until the end of 2010 is childhood obesity prevention; we are aiming to prevent further increases in the number of children becoming overweight or obese. On behalf of the NSW Government Population Health is running Good for Kids.Good for Life - Australia’s largest ever trial program to encourage kids to be active and eat well.
